• I woke up early this morning and Goodfellas was on. I remembered reading someone who described Martin Scorsese as “vastly over-rated” and I remember thinking what a troll maneuver that was at the time. The more I think about it, though, I’m not so sure he might not be slightly over-rated. I was never a big Casino fan, Mean Streets is okay but not great, The Departed steams along for two solid acts before disintegrating, and that Hugo movie that got nominated was said to be overwrought and boring. I do like Goodfellas a lot, as most people do, but maybe he’s been given a level of respect he doesn’t deserve. I don’t know, movie people, your thoughts?
  • Since it feels like literally everyone is picking the Giants, I’ll go with Patriots 31, Giants 23.
  • I took in the first two episodes of Alcatraz. It’s nice to see Hurley again, and the woman who plays the detective is pretty decent, but I’m not sure that the basic mechanics of police work should be as easy as they are making it out to be. I’ll give it a couple more episodes and we’ll see from there.
  • I told Julie she’s going to have to recap halftime for me because I’m driving home during that half hour. I’m not really too fussed to see Madonna, I have to be honest. I’m sure she’ll put on a show. Interested to see how many people in middle America wonder who the hell LMFAO are when they turn up during her performance.
  • Since we’re not really having a Winter to speak of, I started Spring cleaning. It’s going well so far. I’m trolling Winter by daring it to make a comeback, I guess. COME AT ME WINTERBRO
  • After a year, my verdict is in. I miss the iPhone something fierce and I sort of run the gamut of major ambivalence to outright loathing of the Android.
  • Remember if you’re driving home after the game tonight, it’s almost as big a drinking day as New Year’s Eve is, so be careful, okay? I want to see you all back here tomorrow. Well, most of you.
  • I’m going to Penn State next weekend. I’m interested to feel what the mood is like, to be honest.

  4. brevetcaptain said: Hugo is AWESOME. And I really like his remake of Cape Fear, the movie with Cage as an EMT is pretty great, and Last Temptation of Christ is amazing.
  5. nicklas said: I do think he’s overrated, sort of. There’s something in his movies that don’t gel with me and many of them blurs together in that they’re too similar. However, his documentaries? They’re fantastic.
